Time to Go Bowling in Orlando

Orlando readies itself for crazed college football fans as the Florida Citrus Bowl hosts 2 bowl games. Both games invited teams from Michigan. The Capital One Bowl features Michigan (8-4) vs. Florida (9-3) and the Champs Sports Bowl as Boston College (10-3) takes on Michigan State (7-5).

The Capital One Bowl takes place on January 1st while the Champs Sports Bowl kicks off 4 days earlier on December 28th. Fans from Michigan may consider taking an extending stay and attend both ball games. If both teams fulfill their ticket obligations, Orlando would see an influx of more than 30,000 fans from Michigan during the holiday season. Bowl goers may take advantage of their free time by visiting some of the attractions on the Go Orlando Card. Enjoy the bowls and the holidays!!

Orlando Attractions Open for the Holidays

December 17th, 2007 by jamie a

For those who are visiting family or vacationing in the Orlando area for the holidays, we’ve compiled s a list of attractions that will be open on both Christmas and New Year’s Day to keep you busy.

For the odd, outrageous, and fun, head over to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not “Odditorium”. There’s a shrunken head, an Egyptian mummy, and even a dinosaur exhibit to check out.

Dubbed an “amusement park for the mind,” WonderWorks is a great way to spend the day. There’s over 100 interactive exhibits that will astound and delight both children and adults.

At Silver Springs Nature Park, “Florida’s Original Attraction,” experience the wonder of their famous glass bottom boats as you take in the wildlife surrounding the Silver River.

Best of Travel 2007

December 12th, 2007 by susan j

Now is the season for list making to mark the end of the year. Children everywhere are hard at work on their wish lists for Santa. The New York Times recently published its list of 100 Notable Books for 2007.

There are plenty of travel-related lists floating around the blogosphere, too. Here are a couple of my faves…

Frommer’s Top Travel Destinations for 2007 includes some exotic locales like Tokyo and Zurich and a few home grown gems like Portland, Maine and Asheville, North Carolina.

IgoUgo’s Top 10 Big Media Travel Blogs is a virtual who’s who of travel blogging. I read several of the blogs listed daily, but a few of them were new discoveries that I’ll add to my bookmarks.

Times Online’s 50 Best Travel Websites of 2007 is neatly arranged by networking, multimedia, and so on.

Travel + Leisure’s Worlds Best 2007 lists the world’s best hotels, spas, cruises, and more.

Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2007 offers some offbeat suggestions for the adventurous explorer.

This Friday, the Kennedy Space Center will be abuzz with excitement as the Shuttle Atlantis blasts off on mission STS-122, the 24th U.S. mission to the International Space Station. If you’d like to see the launch from KSC’s main Visitor Complex, then you should plan to arrive before 10:30 am for the 4:30 pm launch. After 10:30, the Visitor Complex will only be accessible to those with pre-purchased tickets.

Kennedy Space Center has other launches scheduled for December 10, December 20, and February 14. Of course, you can also experience the thrill of a shuttle launch in the new Shuttle Launch Experience. Read first-hand accounts of this new attraction here and here. Happy travels!

Budget Travel’s blog This Just In tipped us off to a cool feature on the Florida tourism office’s website (which is available in several different languages, by the way!). VisitFlorida.com has an interactive map that shows where movies and TV shows were filmed in Florida. For instance, There’s Something About Mary was filmed in Miami and The Perfect Storm in Orlando. Check it out!
